You may remember Muffin, a stray lurcher who came into our care through one of our seven stray contracts. When she arrived, it was immediately clear that she was suffering from a serious leg injury that had been left untreated.

Upon arrive it was clear that she had sustained a substantial leg injury which had been left untreated, so she was taken to the vets for further investigation. Sadly, they discovered she was dealing with several issues: including a lame hind leg caused by an old tendon injury, mammary tumours and sore, irritated skin.

We’re so relieved she arrived when she did, so we could treat these problems and end her discomfort. Muffin is just one of the many dogs taken in through our stray contracts who are at serious risk, and a powerful example of why we’ve launched our Save Our Strays appeal. She is one of 100 dogs rescued from these areas since January – and part of the 304 dogs we’ve welcomed into our care this year including those from our own stray contracts.

We will not give up on these dogs, and we are incredibly grateful for your support. Alongside our own stray contracts, we are seeing unprecedented pressure on our services, with more dogs arriving in our care than ever before; many of them needing extensive veterinary treatment and behavioural support. This comes at a significant cost, but we remain determined to continue our life-saving work.

Muffin’s story is a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact that Hope Rescue, along with supporters like you, can make. Despite everything she had been through, Muffin’s spirit never wavered. Following her leg amputation and recovery, we’re delighted to say that she is now even more full of life and looks like a completely different dog.

And best of all, she has now been adopted and is happily settled in a loving home.

Adoption day for Muffin

Muffin is a beautiful Lurcher who was lucky to find her forever home but unfortunately this is unusual with her breed who are often overlooked. Our longest stayer, Billy the Lurcher has been in our care for over 1,300 days and we have seen a staggering 98 Lurchers come through our doors since January.
