About us Blogs An update on Harvey In December 2025, we introduced you to Harvey, a 12 year old Labrador who was cruelly abandoned during a cold snap. He was found covered in fleas, suffering from sore, itchy skin, arthritis and a large mass on his hind leg. Yet despite the neglect, Harvey remained a sweet, gentle boy who still loves human company and affection. We sent a sample of the mass for testing, and heartbreakingly, the results confirmed it was cancerous. This is the harsh reality of rescue work. We are seeing more dogs like Harvey every year, dogs who are abandoned at their most vulnerable, left for rescue centres to pick up the pieces. If you are struggling, please reach out. Abandoning a dog is never the answer. Due to Harvey's age and the location of the mass, operating would be too risky. Because of this, we have placed him in one of our incredible palliative foster homes. Surrounded by love, he can relax, feel safe, and live pain free for the time he has left. We stand by our ethos that no dog gets left behind across the seven local authorities we support in South Wales. We take every dog, regardless of age, breed or health. Sadly, Harvey’s story is far from unique, abandonment of elderly and end‑of‑life dogs is becoming increasingly common. If you feel able to offer a safe, loving home to a dog in need, our fostering team would be grateful to hear from you. You can submit a foster application here. Working with stray dogs can be incredibly tough on the team, but we choose this work because these dogs have no one else looking out for them. If you’d like to support our ongoing work with strays, please consider setting up a regular gift from just £5 a month. You can do so below. Manage Cookie Preferences
