Looking forward to our 20th anniversary year As we start the celebrations, we thought we would share a look forward to some of our plans for 2025 and beyond as work towards our vision of a future where all dogs are treated with care, kindness, and respect. We were delighted to recently receive some further funding from our friends at Battersea for a new Volunteer Manager, which will enable us to launch a new volunteering programme including opening volunteering opportunities at the rescue centre in the Spring. With the rescue centre continually full, we’ll shortly be launching a new fostering campaign so we can help even more dogs. Our team has also been developing a new training programme too to ensure we can support our wonderful foster carers every step of their fostering journey. Sadly, funding for our brilliant Hope in the Community programme ends in March, but we’re working hard to secure funding to not only maintain but expand the reach of the programme as the pilot project has shown just how much support is needed for dog owners in our communities. We’re also seeking funding to develop a masterplan to improve our rescue centre, and in particular plans and a feasibility study for an onsite veterinary facility to support both our own dogs and providing preventative vet care for the wider community. With rising levels of neglect, and increased numbers of unwanted litters and pregnant dogs coming through our doors, providing affordable preventative care would make a huge difference. We’re expecting a decision on the future of greyhound racing in Wales in the Spring, and until then will continue to campaign alongside our #CutTheChase partners. A ban on this inherently dangerous “sport” is the only way to fully protect greyhounds racing in Wales from injury and death. With 82% of respondents to the recent consultation on the licensing of animal activities supporting the regulation of animal sanctuaries, rescues and rehoming centres, we’re hoping Welsh Government will move forward with plans to regulate animal welfare establishments in Wales and look forward to supporting this work. We’ve currently got two more new charity shops in the pipeline and will hopefully be able to share some good news shortly! We’ll be continuing with our three-year strategy to open three new shops a year to provide a diverse income stream. As part of the same strategy, we’ll also be looking to develop a new online shop. It’s the last year of our current strategic plan, so we will be developing a new strategy to take us forward for the next five years. As we celebrate #20yearsofHope, we’re excited to embark on the next stage of our journey helping as many pets and people as we can on the way. Thank you on behalf of dogs like Mary-Kate and Ashley who have been given a second chance thanks to your kind support!
