Last week a breeder appeared in court after being found keeping dogs in squalid conditions. We worked with Caerphilly Trading Standards to bring the 29 seized dogs and puppies to safety. The Shih Tzus, Poodles, dachshunds, and a Dogue de Bordeaux were kept in cramped and filthy conditions. The dogs were housed in outdoor kennels which were covered in faeces and urine, overcrowded, poorly lit, and without sufficient weather protection. No dog should be exposed to this neglect.

Whilst supporting local authorities with these cases adds extra pressure to our welfare team and increases costs, this work is so crucial in improving animal welfare in Wales. We are the only rescue in South Wales working with licensing authorities to take in seized dogs and helping them to close down illegal and low welfare breeders. Without Hope Rescue so many more dogs and puppies would be left suffering in unimaginable conditions.

Our amazing foster carers gave the dogs loving homes while we prepared them for their forever homes. All the dogs went on to find happy homes via Hope Rescue or were moved on to our friends at Dogs Trust once signed over.

Sara Rosser, Head of Operations Hope Rescue said: “We were pleased once again to be able to support the excellent work of Caerphilly council on this case. Whilst it can be challenging to take in a large number of dogs with high care needs at one time, we are delighted to say that all the dogs have now been adopted and have gone on to live happy and fulfilled lives.”

It costs around £500 to rehome a healthy dog from entry to adoption. This cost increases depending on medical care, behavioural needs, and length of stay. Donate now to help us save dogs from puppy farmers and enable licensing authorities to bring those causing suffering to justice.
