CEO to Walk on Fire this World Animal Day In an extraordinary demonstration of commitment to the dogs in their care, Hope Rescue founder and CEO, Vanessa Waddon, is quite literally prepared to walk over burning coals this World Animal Day – Friday 4 October to help raise vital funds for the South Wales based dog rescue and welfare charity by taking part in Hope Rescue’s first annual Firewalk! The event which takes place at The Hunters Lodge, Brackla, Bridgend, will see the participants truly feeling the heat beneath their feet as they take on this exhilarating challenge of a lifetime. Vanessa’s participation comes at a time when Hope Rescue is facing unprecedented financial pressure. Last month alone, the centre took in a record-breaking 157 dogs, resulting in increased running costs, including a £43,000 veterinary bill for August alone. The charity, which provides a safe haven for every unclaimed stray dog from seven local authorities and is responsible for a third of all stray dog intakes in Wales, relies on the fundraising income from events like this to continue their essential work whilst the dogs in their care await their new forever homes. Speaking about the upcoming fire walk, Vanessa said "This event really will take me out of my comfort zone, but needs must. I am proud that Hope Rescue provides a place of safety for every single unclaimed stray dog from seven local authorities, and we are determined to continue that commitment. Without Hope Rescue, these dogs would have no future, there is no-one else looking out for them and they rely on us. But we need support now more than ever." Vanessa is not only throwing herself into the challenge but is encouraging others to join her in this remarkable feat too.
