This Volunteers’ Week, we’re taking a moment to shine a very well-deserved spotlight on the incredible individuals who keep the heartbeat of Hope Rescue strong – our volunteers. As we work toward raising a vital £3 million this year to keep the rescue centre running, we know without a doubt that we simply couldn’t do it without their passion, hard work, and boundless dedication.

Whether it’s fostering one of our residents waiting for their forever home, collecting donations in stores, crafting beautiful handmade items, baking for our fundraising stalls, marshalling at events, or helping with sales – our volunteers show up time and time again. They do it with smiles on their faces and love in their hearts, knowing their time and effort are directly supporting our lifesaving work with rescue dogs.

Take Paula, for example – one of our many amazing volunteers. Here she is cooling down after marshalling during our recent Pen Y Fan trek. Paula was part of a team of volunteers ensuring everyone was safe, encouraged, and most importantly, had a great time. And yes – she climbed the mountain too!

Paula’s journey with Hope Rescue began three years ago, after losing her beloved dog, Storm. She dropped off Storm’s unopened medication at the centre, hoping it could be of use. That simple, heartfelt gesture turned into something so much more. Here’s what Paula has to say about her experience:

"I came to my first Hope Rescue Elvis charity event (which was fantastic) and got to know some of the team. Volunteering with Hope has been incredibly rewarding for me.

“What I love most is the tireless effort of the team to provide a safe haven for dogs in need. From the moment I started, I knew I was part of something special. I came to realise that fundraising is crucial to keeping Hope Rescue running, and I’m proud to be a small part of that.

“Whether it's organising an event, spreading the word, or taking part in challenges, I know every effort counts. Through Hope, I’ve found not only a sense of purpose but a community of amazing people who share a passion for animal welfare – and I’ve made some wonderful friends along the way."

Paula is just one example of the many people who make our mission possible. One of the best things about volunteering for Hope Rescue is the flexibility – there’s always a variety of opportunities to suit all schedules and skillsets. Even giving just an hour or two can make a real difference.

If you’ve ever thought about giving volunteering a try, now is the perfect time. Join us in creating hope for dogs in need, and become part of something truly special.
